About
Becky Franks (b.2001, she/her) is a jewellery designer born in London, raised in Aotearoa New Zealand, and based in Eindhoven, where she recently graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven. A life spent swapping hemispheres has led her to examine societal boundaries and question the ordinary.
Her practice begins with trying to understand what makes her, her, and invites others to find their own reflections in the work by asking what makes them, them. Recurring themes include the medical sector, human-nature-science collaboration, mental health, and a childhood spent scouring the beaches of Aotearoa. Wearable adornments become a way of externally telling inner stories.
Starting from lived experience, she zooms in to the microscopic, finding form through careful study of the cellular, blobby, close-up and intimate. Her objects take on lives of their own, carrying her stories forward in a new tactility.
