Trend forecasting theme and photoshoot in collaboration with Maja Bay.
We’re in an age of rapid technological advancement. “Craving Nature’s Fantastical Realities” is a revival of similar historical events, like the Industrial Revolution and the space race. It’s a techno futurist belief: a hope for a better earth is based on the possibilities of new technology. However, here, a key difference is the belief in human-nature collaboration, in contrast to exploitative expansion.
The inspirations for this theme are centered around new scientific discoveries that seem like fiction come alive. Alien nature, and undiscovered fantastical entities, remind us that there are yet things that are untouched by humans, and bridge the gap between the believable and unbelievable, the recognizable and unrecognizable.
Along with these discoveries, come a new and hopeful inspiration for materialities. That bio-materials can go beyond the “earthy” qualities we have seen before. Some newly discovered sea creatures mimic textures and colors that we normally consider “human made”. They’re glow-in-the-dark, shiny, plasticky, blobby etc.
Together we made a soundscape and wearable elements to fit this trend research including; iridescant knitted stockings, gloimkloin thong, earth pig < sea pig dress, PU flexfoam glasses/bag, rubber dipped sneaker wedges, acrylic toenails set.
