Designing the Designer

The ‘My Designer’ rings are the ring size of myself and the
embryoligist who created me in a embryo development lab in
London. Dr Sheryl Homa. One ring for me and one ring for
her.
I searched for months for my missing parental figure and
through my research had the pleasure of meeting Sheryl and
interviewing her about her career and the children she has
brought into the world.
We spoke about attributes of good sperm and bad sperm.
How she makes her decisions in the lab and how it feels to
know so many lives were created thanks to her skillful and
kind hands.
Meeting ‘my designer’ was surprisingly emotional. I cried
after we hung up the call.

Accompanying the jewellery pieces is a film interviewing my parents about their story. Camcorder footage of my childhood plays showing the lives they worked so hard to bring into the world.
Before working on this project I didn’t know the intimate details of their fertility journey. What a privilege it was to combine learning family history with craft.
